Future Project: Advance 3748, circa 1940s

+ + +

I was innocently perusing the internet today when I accidentally ended up buying this pattern. Most of my searches for 40s patterns has yielded dresses. This is the first time where I’ve seen a jumpsuit/romper pattern. It reminds me of this piece I saw in the Brooklyn Museum couture exhibit over the summer.

  1. It will be interesting to see how this comes out. I have run across a few jumpsuits and rompers from the 40′s. I feel like I am looking at a movie clip. I have in my stash a pair of overalls a la Rosie the Riveter from the 40′s. It is a mail order pattern. Too cool to use.

  2. You should sew it up!

I might be totally off but 40s jumpsuits for the Fall look comfy and very wearable. I’ll have to see how it turns out.

  3. OMG. That is an AMAZING pattern! I have never seen one like it! I can’t wait to see you make it! YAY!!

  4. Awesome. Can’t wait to see this!

Thanks for your helpful comment on my blog re. ill fitting pedal pushers. No, I haven’t tried measuring the inseam, because I am lazy and thought I could sew up pants without checking any reference books or even thinking it through properly. But I’ve learnt my lesson and have lots of really useful pointers thanks to you and the other bloggers!

I’m tempted to start again in linen to make some like yours…

  5. Tilly, sure no problem. :) I made a muslin of my pants first. That might also help with the tweaks. Good luck and let us posted on how it goes!
