Tales of Christmas Past

Christmas in NYC for me has always been very minimalist. We don’t have a fireplace and live on the 3rd floor, and there isn’t much room to decorate. Nevertheless, we try.

Christmas 2008

This was Christmas here last year. We put lights up on the windows and hung a bough of plastic holly with lights across the windowsill (or “mantle”, as we call it, since it’s above the radiator.)

Christmas 2008

There was a mishap with the garland last year since Esteemed Sewing Assistant ate a few of the plastic berries, thinking them to be “real” berries, and kept swatting them from the garland and eating them. I had to bring him to the vet and he was OK, but there won’t be any garlands or plastic berries this year.

Christmas 2008

It was very difficult to get this photo. Bean does not like hats. Even Santa hats.

Christmas 2008

Behind Santa Esteemed Sewing Assistant is a small ceramic tree that plugs into the wall and has decorations baked in. This was part of my mother’s Christmas decoration upstate, which I abducted to bring cheer to my windowsill.

We haven’t done any of the Christmas decorating this year since it’s been so hectic, but hope to decorate soon.

Thanks for Bean pics! I find cats amazing and I love their personality and I find it hard not to have a cat on my own for the past yr:( Of course I’m giggling reading he doesn’t like hats!

As for Christmas decorating, i still have 4 shiny big stars hanging by the ceiling since last Christmas… we can say I was one of the first ppl to decorate for this Christmas haha…

I love what you’ve done, looks so warm and cozy and welcoming, I feel like I’ve really visited your place, Thanks!

You’re welcome! I’m usually a procrastinator when it comes to decorating for the holidays. I keep thinking I’ll get better year after year, but then again I leave it up until the Feast of the Three Kings which is past Christmas.

Bean is remarkably photogenic, and he really hates hats. :)
