Work in Progress: A Modified Sencha

The post-it is a note leftover from my wearable muslin Sencha from last year.

This was meant to be a scoop-neck version but I made a mistake with the drafting and ended up with this pointy oval version instead. I didn’t make a muslin but I do like it.

  1. Wow, you use the same pattern a lot, I’ve been thinking how I’d like that blouse, but I already own a bunch of vintage 40s blouse patterns and just wonder if I should attempt the real thing, but then I’d still have to not be totally true to it bec I can’t see me sporting the extra long shoulders and def not shoulder pads. But I can’t seem to part with them either without giving at least one a try. So don’t know if I can justify an expensive Colette or Sewaholic pattern despite loving how everyone elses turns out like yours, esp love that pink one and how you manage to get a bargain on your fabrics, I need to go to the city and try it (I’m on Long Island). I would love see if anyone tackled a 40s blouse pattern and made the shoulders look good. I know skirts well just look like skirts so no big deal to use a 40s pattern and everyone seems to make the dresses too, just wondering why I almost never see anyone make a 40s blouse other than 40s inspire blouses from modern patterns.

  2. Thank you, Jen! I made a 30s blouse (reproduced using Wearing History patterns). Yes I make Sencha a lot, but I’m trying to stay away from doing the same one or two patterns this year. It’s partly because of their high cost that I feel I should reuse the Colette patterns as often as I can. I have issues with the 1940s shoulders too. Sometimes they end up looking too boxy on me and just unflattering. I’ll probably try drafting my own at some point.
