I started buying modern patterns this week, and wanted to know if Club BMV is worthwhile. The nearest Joanne’s from my house is in New Jersey (really far away) and I’ve always gotten most of my patterns online. Does anyone have any advice?
I’d be interested to hear the answer to this. Personally I always wait until Vogue/Butterick/McCalls has one of its sales and then buy half a dozen patterns together. Postage to the UK is expensive but if you are buying more than one pattern there is still a substantial saving to be made. Last time I paid around $24 for 6 patterns plus $25 in postage. I think the patterns are around £14 ($22) each here so it’s considerably cheaper. Also the postage is remarkably fast; I’ve never had to wait for long.
I joined BMV last year so I could try and save some money when purchasing a pattern that was going out-of-print. I order 2 sale patterns at $3.75 each plus a pattern that wasn’t on sale. Paid the joining fee. I can’t say that it was worth it. I haven’t ordered since because the fabrics stores in Australia sometimes have half-off sales, for eg over easter, patterns were $5!!!
your cat does an amazing job at helping out!
I do the club bmv and love it. especially when the patterns go on sale for $1.99 each. I think the vogues are always a little bit more. But it more than pays off for itself if you buy 2 or 3 patterns a year, but especially if you buy more. I am guilty as charged about the more.
I don’t do it. I don’t buy enough patterns to make it worth it. They have their $1.88/$3.88 sales often enough that taking another 15% off isn’t worth the $10 per year to me. Assuming that you save on average 45 cents per pattern, you’d have to buy more than 22 patterns per year to make it worth it.
