Colette Hazel: Work in Progress

Here is my progress on Hazel so far. I discarded the skirt since I thought the gathered skirt might be unflattering on me. The skirt is a combination of a tapered 40s skirt pattern and a wrap sarong. I think the design lines are lost with such a busy fabric, but I like it so far.

Nice fabric, love to see the result!

Beautiful fabric. I like the way you’re configuring the skirt. I’ve had to reduce a lot of the skirt fabric in both my muslin and final Hazels, so you definitely have the right idea. It’s going to be a gorgeous dress. Can’t wait to see it.

Loving this! The skirt is way cute! I’m not a huge fan of the Hazel skirt, but I may make one with a different skirt, too.

  4. Janice says:

I don’t look that good in gathered skirts, unless there’s a pronounced waistband and some sort of waist definition going on. From the Hazels I’ve seen online, I’ve noticed that the gathered skirts look pouchy and sort of undefined, so I wanted to do a different take on my version.

  5. Oh my gosh, that looks so good!! And we are Hawaiian Hazel twinnies (I made one from Hawaiian fabric too :) ).

That is going to look amazing. I don’t love a gathered skirt in a dress, so I think this is going to be fantastic with the skirt you’ve added.

  7. Janice says:

Thanks guys. I’m recently gotten over my fear of “gathered skirts make me look fat”, but I’ve noticed that that’s only if the fabric is stiff and doesn’t have the bell shape going on, or if the gathers are pressed flat within an inch of their lives.

This is going to be such an awesome creation! Love the gathered skirt xxx

  9. Janice says:

    Thanks, Zoe!
