Pattern Acquisition: Butterick 9427

+ + +

From the Vintage Pattern Wiki: Butterick 9427; ca. 1960; Misses’ Quick ‘N Easy Dress. Soft dress with bias cut bodice and skirt, shaped cowl collar continuing into a shoulder bow, self-belt. (A) Short sleeves cut in one with bodice. (B) Sleeveless.

I really like the sleek lines on this pattern, however I don’t know how I feel about the gathered (undefined?) skirt. I’ll have to take a closer look at the pattern, but I will probably change those to darts.

  1. I don’t see a gathered skirt. I think you will find it is either bias cut, or A-line panels with the grain line up the middle of each. Either way, smooth at the waist.

  2. Oh I see, Cherry, I guess the belt in these pictures is covering it, but I thought there was very little waist definition. I haven’t actually checked the pattern yet, but A-line seems about right.

  3. I agree, the wait looks a-line to me…the belt in the drawing makes it hard to see. I bet fabric choice – especially how much drape the fabric has – will be key to making this dress.
